Ben Humphrey was born in Worcester, UK and is the eldest of four children. He attended the King's School, Worcester until he was 18 and was a music scholar in the Worcester Cathedral Choir performing on many recordings and albums as a soloist including John Harle's Silencium, the soundtrack to BBC's Silent Witness (1996). He has known long time friend, fellow music scholar, and often writing collaborator Simon Renshaw, since they attended primary school together. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and graduated along with Laura Carmichael, Jonathan Le Billon, David Oakes, and along with Michelle Lukes won the school's Most Versatile Leading Actor Award in 2007. After graduating he went on to work mainly in stage, radio and voiceover work with seasons in London, Stratford-upon-Avon and international tours. He regularly lends his voice to cartoons, adverts, documentaries and audio books. He has written a number of plays, some of which have gone on to win various awards and in 2011 was made Associate Director of the Worcester Repertory Company, a position that has been held by a number of notable directors and producers over the years including David Wood OBE and Phyllida Lloyd. He was made an Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in 2012 and is one of the UKs most popular theatrical adjudicators.
