Gavin Van Vlack was raised on the lower east side of Manhattan. He grew up in a neighborhood rich in musical culture and rife with the harsh reality of urban life. A veteran of the New York hardcore punk rock scene he began playing and touring in bands when he was 15. In his career he has founded and performed in several of New York's most influential young acts to include "Burn," "Absolution," "Die 116," and "Pry," receiving critical acclaim and building a solid cult following. More recently he was a member of the LA based band "Big Collapse" appearing on their critically acclaimed album "Prototype." Beginning in the 1980s Gavin found work in some of the most notorious New City nightclubs in which the solid foundation of early house and 80's hip hop found their way into his ears, taking a firm grip, influencing his musical style which began to develop in eclectic ways. These multi-cultural influences can be heard throughout his body of work. While dominantly working in the "rock" arena of music, the influences of jazz, dance and even classical make up Gavin's repertoire. Gavin's ambition to compose for feature films and music production is where he sees his career heading. To this end, he has teamed with his cousin, film director Matthew Van Vlack, in producing the soundtrack, performing in and scoring the feature film "Art Imitating Life."
