The work of Carolyn Combs is recognized as being sensitive to performance and rigorously visual. A graduate of the Canadian Film Centre's Director Residency Program, she has worked on features and shorts, as well as documentaries and more experimental forms. Supported by Telefilm Canada and the BC Arts Council, Bella Ciao! - which she directed, edited and co-produced - is her second feature. Her first, Acts of Imagination, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006, screened at numerous international festivals, had a limited theatrical release, and was broadcast in Canada. She also works as the Executive Director of Women in Film and Television Vancouver, a member driven, not-for-profit, society addressing systemic barriers to women's equal participation in the production and dissemination of screen-based media.
