An Award Winning Filmmaker, she is a Co-Founder and Producer of Working Group Pictures. She is most known for her work on These Hopeless Savages (2014) and Molly's Girl (2012). Kaitlyn Busbee fell in love with film at age 14 when she began attending downtown Des Moines' Central Campus Film Program where she learned a wide range of filmmaking skills. She is a multiple award winning filmmaker with awards from the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival, the 48 Hr. Film Project, the Iowa Motion Picture Association, and the Grandview Film Festival. She is co-founder of JEK FILMS for which she has produced and shot many projects including the award-winning behind the scenes feature-length documentary, A GHOST OF A CHANCE: THE MAKING OF HAUNTING VILLISCA, which achieved international distribution. Kaitlyn's work as a DP on the 48 Hour Film Project short, XP3NDABL3, won the Best Cinematography award. Kaitlyn worked as Camera Op on the 48 Hr. films, GOOD COP/BAD COP and CLUTCH, has shot several professional commercials, shot the narration for the award-winning professional documentary CLOSURE, served as Director of Photography for the FOX/Big Ten Network TV pilot, MY CAMPUS LIFE, and also for the indie films, DRAINED and CNTRL ALT DELETE. Recently, Kaitlyn also served as a Locations Manager and Associate Producer on the Bluebox Limited/MTV Remote Productions TV Pilot, SPREAD. In addition to winning several awards for her filmmaking, Kaitlyn was chosen as one of 50 select students to attend the 2011 Telluride Student Film Symposium. Given the unique opportunity to study with notable filmmakers including Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Ken Burns, Joshua Marston, Lynn Ramsey and Oscar winning actress Tilda Swinton, among others. After viewing Wim Wenders' 3D documentary, PINA, at Telluride, Kaitlyn was inspired to collaborate on one of her most recent film projects. With Chicago-based composer, writer, performer, and designer, Joshua Dumas and Iowa City-based dance choreographer, Fannie Hungerford, Kaitlyn served as a Cinematographer on MIRRORS ARE JUST WATER SPECIFIED, inspired by the distinguished photographer, Francesca Woodman. Kaitlyn graduated from the University of Iowa with a double major in Cinema and Theatre Arts, and a certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship. She is currently working on the feature film THE FARM, as the 2nd Unit Camera Operator. THE FARM is part of Iowa film initiative program, PROJECT CORNLIGHT. Collaborating with LA actress, Tanna Frederick, and many other filmmakers and actors with Iowa connections, PROJECT CORNLIGHT intends to inspire and revive the film industry in Iowa; to foster emerging Iowa filmmakers, actors and writers; to bring back talented Iowa natives now living in other markets; and to grow artistically strong and commercially viable feature films from the Heartland.
