Rich Newey

With over 20 years experience in the industry, Rich Newey is an award-winning, multi-hyphenate director, writer, editor and producer. Starting his career in music videos, working in various locations across the globe, Rich has had the good fortune of collaborating with a wide variety of A-List Artists including: Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Akon, Sean Kingston, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Tiesto, Three 6 Mafia, Nipsey Hussle, Ice Cube, Mack 10, Mark Ronson, Twista, Bone Thugs n' Harmony, Rich Boy, Jermaine Dupri, Flipsyde, Kurupt, Digital Underground, Ludacris, T.I., Anthony Hamilton, Nappy Roots, Nate Dogg and Ghostface Killah to name a few. Rich's success in the music industry led to work in commercials and he was often called upon by ad agencies and household brand names to help reinvent their products. His work primarily focused on lifestyle and includes diverse brands such as Midway Games, General Motors, Adidas, Proctor & Gamble, DeVry University and Bally Total Fitness. With a strong background in editing, one of Rich's early successes was an Apple Spec Commercial he cut during his senior year of film school. It won the coveted Gold Clio as well as an A.I.C.P Award and now enjoys a permanent home in the New York Museum Of Modern Art. Another notable editing project was the Shakira "Waka Waka" 3D music video directed by Marcus Raboy. It premiered at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and to date has been viewed over 2.5 billion times on YouTube. As a storyteller, Rich loves complicated characters dealing with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Some of his directing work in television drama includes NBC's smash hit series "Blindspot", CBS's series "God Friended Me", Freeform's critically acclaimed series "The Fosters", CW's supernatural thriller "Beauty & The Beast", as well as CW's period drama "Reign", in which he directed the Winter Finale of Season Two. On NBC's "Heroes Reborn" he directing pick-ups and re-shoots on ten episodes over the course of the first season-- much of which was VFX heavy work. Rich's extensive experience working with stunts and visual effects include epic choreographed fight sequences, high octane shootouts, helicopter stunts, nail-biting car chases, as well as motion capture and green screen work. Rich has also had the opportunity to flex his comedic muscles with a variety of projects including Freeform's sci-fi skewing series "Stitchers", Sony International's detective series "Carter" and Hallmark mainstay "Good Witch", a broad family comedy. The latter two shows were cross boarded Season Finale blocks. Rich also co-directed the comedic short film "The Games We Play" with his wife Annika Marks, who wrote and stars in the project along side Thomas Sadoski, Emily Swallow and others. It won the audience award at the Sonoma International Film Festival and was nominated for the audience award as well as best director at the Albuquerque Film & Music Experience. In features, Rich is finishing post production on the indie dark comedy "Killing Eleanor", which he also edited and produced along side his wife, Annika Marks, through their Let's Try One Productions banner. And currently Rich is in early pre-production on his next feature, "Adult Children", which Marks also wrote and will star. They will be producing with Thomas Sadoski and Amanda Seyfried, who will also be in the film. Rich loves working with actors-- giving them both the support and encouragement they need to do their best work. His collaborators include a wide array of talented thespians such as: Noah Centineo, Camryn Manheim, Betsy Brandt, Thomas Sadoski, Jane Kaczmarek, Joe Morton, Brandon Michael Hall, Javicia Leslie, Suraj Sharma, Rebecca Romijn, Jamie Alexander, Martin Donovan, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sullivan Stapleton, Catherine Bell, Becca Tobin, Zachary Levi, Kristen Kreuk, Jerry O'Connell, Maia Mitchell, Teri Polo, Chris Mulkey, Brent Sexton, Emily Swallow, Adelaide Kane and Jack Coleman to name a few. With a keen sense of visual style and an inherent understanding of story combined with the ability to problem solve under pressure, a robust connection to actors and their process and an editor's timing and sensibility-- Rich is a director with the whole package; one who is as passionate about his craft as he is for the opportunity to collaborate with other creative storytellers. Originally from Palm Springs, California, Rich is a resident of Vancouver, British Columbia and holds dual citizenship in Canada and the U.S.. Rich is represented by Michael Kolodny at the Kaplan-Stahler Agency in the U.S. and Ben Silverman at Integral Artists in Canada. He is managed by Kasra Ajir at Velocity Entertainment Partners.
