Ashok Baker

Ashok Baker started out making documentary films at High School, and soon wanted to move into fiction. After several failed attempts to improvise some short films, he wrote a feature film at the age of 15. The feature, entitled Reflections, got picked up by Workshop Productions, a small production company from Lancaster, and Baker directed the film when he was 16 over the course of two weeks on a budget of £20,000. The film was completed in 2008 after post-production became delayed and more shoots were required. Workshop Productions has since become Workshop Media, and Baker still works for them as a camera operator, boom operator, and assistant director on occasion. In 2009 he started a three year course at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, studying Film and TV Screenwriting and Media Production and Technology. At University he has had the chance to hone his skills, particularly in writing, directing, camera operating, editing, and acting. He has taken on various roles in many short films, music videos, corporate videos, documentaries and studio-based TV shows. Baker has also had the chance to work with other companies and organizations, notably writing on a new soap for online channel LancashireOne, being a patron and guest teacher with Phoenix Youth Theatre, and writing for music magazine The Ark Preston.
