Carla Denly

Carla Denly is an award-winning documentary and news producer who began her career at ABC News in 1998. During Carla's tenure with the network, she collaborated with celebrated journalists on breaking-news and high-profile features for shows including Good Morning America, Nightline, PrimeTime LIVE and 20/20. While at ABC News, Carla contributed to live broadcasts from the White House, features related to the impeachment of President Clinton and the rash of school shootings following Columbine. Carla was a producer for the network's coverage on September 11th, 2001, and in the weeks that followed, in New York and beyond. Carla also worked for ABC News' Long Form (documentary) Unit on productions including, "Hip Hop," a three-part series for Nightline, which was a finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism, and "State v.," a five-hour documentary series chronicling criminal trials from pre-trial preparations to jury verdicts. The series included unprecedented access to full jury deliberations. Carla has developed, reported and produced stories on a variety of subjects over the last 14 years, including social issues, education and science. She was a producer for the premiere broadcast of PBS' NOVA scienceNOW in 2005, and continued producing segments profiling America's foremost young scientists and engineers for the next six years. As a member of Crystal Stair Productions, Inc., Carla and her colleague Robe Imbriano produced a documentary for PBS' Now with Bill Moyers about a New York City high school that allows non-traditional students an opportunity to earn a diploma. After the documentary's broadcast, the school received over a million dollars in donations. While with Crystal Stair, Carla field produced an hour-long broadcast for MSNBC about life after incarceration that won a Cine Gold Eagle award. The three films Carla developed and field produced for The Documentary Group's educational series, The Constitution Project, have been featured at film festivals around the country, shown at thousands of high schools and garnered more than a dozen awards. In Los Angeles, Carla's adopted hometown, she is a board member of the Leadership Council at the Fulfillment Fund, a non-profit organization that works closely with first-generation, low-income students as they pursue high school diplomas and college degrees. She is a member of the Los Angeles Press Club and the International Documentary Association. Carla has been a featured speaker at academic institutions and professional events including the United Nations Film Festival and the University of Maastricht, in the Netherlands. Carla is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
