The Tee Set formed in 1966 in Delft, Holland. Three years later they recorded a single, "Ma Belle Amie", which was a hit in Holland, selling more than 100,000 copies. The next year they released an album in the US called "Ma Belle Amie" on Colossus Records, and the single of the same name from the album took off, reaching #5 on the US charts, selling more than one million copies and earning the group a gold record. Their follow-up song, "She Likes Weeds", was a #1 hit in Holland but was banned from airplay by many stations in the US because it was thought the song was in praise of marijuana (as it turned out, it wasn't; it was taken from a Michael Caine film called The Ipcress File (1965)). A following single, "If You Do Believe In Love", didn't even break into the top 50. In 1975 the group disbanded.
