Surfer Brad McCaul was born in 1952 in Alameda, California. Raised in both Newport Beach and Capistrano Beach, California, McCaul first started surfing at Huntington Beach in California at age thirteen. Brad was the juniors division national champion in 1968 and won the men's division in the 1970 United States Surfing Championships. Moreover, McCaul competed in both the World Surfing Championships and the Duke Kahanamoku Classic Invitational contest in 1970. Brad went on to win the 1971 Gunston 500 surf contest in South Africa. In addition, McCaul received a B.A. degree in psychology from Southern California College in 1976 and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1988.
