Ed McPherson is a trial lawyer with the Los Angeles entertainment litigation firm McPherson Rane LLP. He specializes in the (artist-side) representation of actors, actresses, writers, directors, producers, managers, agents, recording artists, musicians, songwriters, composers, record producers, business managers, and production companies involved in major disputes. McPherson was honored as one of Billboard's Top Music Lawyers in 2020 and one of Billboard's "50 Attorneys of Note in the Music Biz" in 2014. He was listed in the Los Angeles Daily Journal's Top Entertainment Attorneys. He has been recognized as a California "Super Lawyer" in Los Angeles Magazine for thirteen consecutive years, and has received an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest rating possible for an attorney. McPherson is a frequent author and lecturer. He has represented numerous celebrities and a few non-celebrities in connection with the investigation of, and obtaining restraining orders against, various stalkers and other predators. In addition, he has handled numerous matters involving celebrity rights of publicity, rights of privacy, defamation, record production and distribution, music publishing, copyright and trademark infringement, management/artist disputes, motion picture and television production and distribution, breach of implied contract (submission cases), net profits, unfair competition, WGA, DGA, SAG, and AFTRA disputes, legal malpractice, and general civil litigation. In addition, he has served as a consultant and expert witness in connection with the California Talent Agencies Act, about which he has given numerous lectures and written eight published articles. Mr. McPherson is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Music degree in Recording Engineering, both in 1978, graduating with honors. At U.S.C., he was the President of the Delta Chi Fraternity during his junior year. He also is a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law (J.D. 1982), where he won the Nathan Burkan (ASCAP) Memorial Copyright Law Competition. He is on the Board of Visitors of the University of San Diego Law School.
