Matías Basso attended the Official Television Institute in Barcelona (1988-1990), where he specialized in directing. After traveling in Africa, Asia and Europe making documentaries, he took a Post-Graduate Degree and a Masters in Film & TV Production in Edinburgh (1998), where he wrote and directed the fiction short film 'Careless', which won the BBC Talent 2000 Award. His documentary 'Mosaic' was nominated for the Human Rights Award at the Al Jazeera Documentary Film Festival (Doha, 2011). After that, he partnered with Al Jazeera to make the documentary 'Dinar Movement' (2012), an big success with audiences and currently on Amazon Prime. He was a screenwriter at leading production company Globo Media in Spain, mostly on 'Paco's Men', a smash hit drama series on national prime time. He has also co-directed the feature film 'Socrates on Trial' (Kanalya Pictures, CA, US), which won the Artistic Merit Award at the Festival of Hollywood. His latest documentary, 'Inside IS: Ten Days Inside the Islamic State', was co-produced with Phoenix TV (Germany), TV3 (Spain) and NRK (Norway) and is on Amazon Prime and iTunes.
