“I was always very shy. When I was a kid, I would hide by playing pretend. I would dress up as an old man or something and go out on the street with my mother, that's how I came out of my shell. That's how I ended up stumbling into acting.” Austin Butler is an American actor best known for playing Elvis Presley in the musical film Elvis (2022). When Butler was thirteen years old, he was approached by an acting agent who helped him get his start in show business, from there he began taking acting classes. He began his career in the entertainment industry appearing in Disney Channel and Nickelodeon television shows, such as Hannah Montana, iCarly, and Zoey 101. His film debut was with the family film Aliens in the Attic (2009), but he began to gain recognition for his starring roles in the prequel to Sex and the City: The Carrie Diaries (2013) and later with The Shannara Chronicles (2016). He had a participation in the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), and that same year he was chosen to act in Elvis, directed by Baz Luhrmann. The film had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and Butler's performance received praise from both critics and the Presley family. The role earned him several Best Actor nominations, including Academy Award, BAFTA, Critics' Choice, Golden Globe and SAG Awards, winning the BAFTA and Golden Globe. He also had his Broadway debut with the play The Iceman Cometh. His other projects include: Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure (2011), which is High School Musical’s spin-off, The Bikeriders (2023) and Dune: Part 2 (2024). Butler is one of the most promising emerging talents of his generation in the film industry.
