Juan Basanta, Dominican director born april 22nd 1966, is a recognized professional graduated of Cinematography in the International School of Film and TV of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba, a prestigious school directed, at the time, by author Gabriel García Márquez. From his beginnings Basanta made a prominent career of directing music videos for recognized Latin artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Aventura, Tego Calderón, Don Omar', Ilegales and Los hermanos Rosario. Basanta has been nominated nine consecutive times for the yearly Dominican "Casandra Award" for Best Music Video, earning five consecutive awards. His company Basantafilms founded in 1997 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. is an innovative production company that provides services to both local and international markets . Basantafilms specializes on a variety of products that include TV commercials , music videos, infomercials, documentaries, institutional videos. As a full production company, Basantafilms has produced a great number of music videos for Latin directors like Jessy Terrero, Kacho Lopez and Carlos Pérez. Videos for artist like Daddy Yankee, Maná, Ne-Yo, Kat de Luna and Wisin & Yandel to name a few. Basanta was the local producer for the Dominican unit fo Sally Potter's "Yes", and, most recently, alongside Jessy Terrero for Vin Diesel's short film "Los Bandoleros" a pre-quel for "Fast and Furious IV" to be released in 2009.
