The Happpenings was an American rock vocal group that formed in the early 1960s. Its members were all from Paterson, NJ. Between 1966-68 the group had nine singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and their two biggest sellers were "See You in September" (1966) and "I've Got Rhythm" (1967), both recorded for the small B.T. Puppy Records label (owned by The Tokens and distributed by Jubilee Records). Both songs sold more than a million copies and the group was awarded a gold record for each. Most of the songs the group released were cover versions of tunes that had been popular many years before ("See You In September" was originally recorded in 1959 by The Tempos on Climax Records and "I Got Rhythm" was written by George Gershwin in 1930), although later in their career they did write some of their own songs. The group had basically faded by the late 1960s, and made some attempts at a comeback in the 1970s, cutting some sides for Atlantic Records' Big Tree label in 1972 and, four years later, for Bob Reno's Midsong Records (distributed by RCA); its roster also included Silver Convention and John Travolta. Unfortunately for the group, none of their later efforts were successful. The band went through several personnel changes, but is still touring, playing oldies shows and occasionally performing on cruise ships. Lead singer Bob Miranda is the only original member left in the group.
