Mazi Khalighi is an Iranian/Canadian writer and director who immigrated to Canada at the age of four. After three years of honours at Humber College's prestigious Film & Television Production program, his thesis film, Foreign Soil, was accepted into many film festivals across North America and nominated in the category of Outstanding Canadian Short Film at the 2007 Reel World Film Festival and subsequently picked up for distribution by Toronto based Ouat Media. His NFB supported short film entitled "Us" has been accepted into many national Genie qualifying and international Oscar qualifying festivals and also been nominated in the "Emerging Artist" category of the 64th annual Yorkton Film Festival/Golden Sheaf Awards. His most recent short film, "The Date", starring Katie Boland and Noah Reid, is currently on the festival circuit. Through his production company, Verbal Pictures, Mazi has written, directed and produced several short films and a number of high-end music and corporate videos. He is also developing a slate of original feature films while continuing to enthusiastically pursue the production and distribution of his short form projects. Aside from pursuing his own creative endeavors, Mazi is constantly scouting out other professional avenues that fulfill his passion to associate himself with high quality projects. He has previously interned with Maple Pictures as well as being employed in the development division at Capri Films/Releasing where he contributed to the release of such films as Sarah Polley's Away From Her and Terry Gilliam's Tideland. He has most recently worked as Director's Assistant to acclaimed filmmaker Sarah Polley on her second feature film, Take This Waltz.
