Born in Krakow, Poland, Robert Witold Maklowicz is a Polish traveler, historian, culinary critic, and television personality, best known for his culinary programs. His parents were a sailor Wlodzimierz Maklowicz and Beata Maklowicz, nee Preiss; he has a younger sister, Dominika, and is of mixed Polish, Ukrainian, Armenian, Hungarian, and Austrian descent. He studied law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow before switching to history, in which he received a degree in 1989. Following his graduation, he left for the UK, where he worked as a laborer and came into contact with various cuisines. This experience inspired him to become a culinary critic upon his return to Poland in 1990. Since then, he has worked as a culinary reporter in the press, on TV, and on the Internet. He's been married to Agnieszka Maklowicz (nee Pogoda) since 1991, they have two sons, Mikolaj and Ferdynand.
