Markku Laamanen was a Finnish singer. He started his career as a touring musician in the later part of the 1960s. Laamanen played for example for Irwin Goodman, Reijo Hirvelä and Jukka Kuoppamäki in a band. When his solo career started, his artist name was Gulliver, which was given for him by the known lyrics writer Vexi Salmi. However, despite recording singles in the 1960s and 1970s, Laamanen had to wait until he was 59 years old before he reached national fame. This happened in Talent TV-show, in which he sang "You Raise Me Up" in qualification. He finished third in the competition.
