Originally from Israel, Hershko who graduated from Haifa school of the arts had joined the army where he served as a photographer and later as a teacher for photography. After his Honorable discharge as a Sergeant, he studied at WIZO Art College in Haifa and is a graduate of the New York Film Academy Digital Film Program. In addition to filmmaking pursuits, Eli has worked as a professional photographer, shooting album and magazine covers for popular artists including Biggie Smalls, Bjork, Public Enemy, OPP, Space Hog, The Backstreet Boys, Cake, Garbage and Tony Bennett (to name a few). in 2012 Hershko finished post-production on his first feature film titled "Carla" starring Emmy nominated actor Mark Margolis and Lavern Cox of "orange is the new black" Netflix original series. The film has entered the 2013 film festival circuits. and has been winning awards. In 2015 his feature Film, "the closer" has entered the film festival circuit, winning over 14 awards in 2015/16. The 2018 feature film titled "Fairytale" marks Hershko's third feature film. It is unique in the sense that it was a departure from the traditional filmmaking process. It was chronologically shot over eight days in New York City and Long Island. It was created without a script as a total improvisation. It was self-financed and shot on a shoestring budget. "Fairytale" was shot with a set of three anamorphic lenses that Hershko himself built from scratch. It took him two years to build these lenses before he was ready to shoot the film.
