Cary Kehayan is a New York City based filmmaker, musician and video artist. Kehayan received his B.A. in Visual Arts from Fordham University Lincoln Center and was selected to study film directing and producing at the BBC Training Academy in London. While in the UK, he studied art and screen-writing at the British Institute of Contemporary Arts. His semi-autobiographical film, I Speak, You Understand Me, earned him the 2010 James Storey Award For Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts. As a member of the indie rock group Titus Andronicus, frontman of alt-country band Average Girl, and avant-punk solo artist, Kehayan continues to make records and tour internationally. He has achieved critical success as a television director/producer and editor (BBC Television, HBO Documentary Films) and as a video artist & curator. He resides in Brooklyn, NY. Kehayan's award-winning documentary, In Search of Avery Willard, explores the life and work of a groundbreaking yet forgotten New York City artist. The film has screened at numerous U.S. and international film festivals.
