Charles was a two-time first-team Class 5A All-State selection and 2005 Parade All-American at Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas. Rushed for 4,107 yards and 50 touchdowns his final two high school seasons, breaking the Port Arthur City rushing record. Received the Willie Ray Smith Award twice in high school, given to the Southeast Texas Offensive MVP. Lettered in track, winning state titles in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles as a senior. Received a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2003 World Youth Championships. Active in the Special Olympics community. Jamaal Charles was born on Dec. 27, 1986, in Port Arthur, Texas.
