Andrew Savage has been interested in Film, TV and Theatre SFX make-up and props since he was at school (a long time ago, in a town far, far away...or Liverpool to you and me!). When he was at school he was lucky enough to have his Dad arrange work experience, through a man he drank with who was the Head of the Art Department in the renound Liverpool Playhouse, to do his work there, where he helped out around the workshop, cleaning brushes, painting signs, but watching what they were doing more importantly. Three years later he was working behind the bar of the same pub, and the same Head of Art came in for a pint one dinner hour. By the end of the pint he had offered him a job and so his journey started! He worked on numerous productions such as "No Trams to Lime Street", "Blood Brothers", "Medea" and also on "Brookside" for TV. He predominantly worked on painting sets and backdrops, however, any free time He had would be spent wandering off to other departments to see what they got up to, often spending time in the Make-Up dept, which he found fascinating. He would go home and practice what he had saw that day on himself using his Mum's make-up and general household bits and bobs! But he found after time he had a bit of a penchant for it, especially the blood and guts stuff, getting messy was his thing. After a great time at the Playhouse, unfortunately it made cuts and he left to get a "real" job. He still messed about with different make-up techniques but found it hard trying to do that as a hobby and work all the hours god sends. He then spent a period of time out of work caring for his wife who fell ill after the birth of our first child. It was then, with a bit more time on his hands, that he really got stuck in to learning as much as he could about SFX make-up. Watching films in a different way, scouring books, and the Internet for guides and tutorials. He used to make himself and friends up for parties, Halloween etc, and used to scare the pants off everyone he come into contact with. But it was all still just a hobby. People used to tell him "you should do it as a job" but he knew how difficult an industry it was to break into, especially without any real qualifications. So it remained a hobby. Then one day in October 2012, he got a break. A local historical theatre company called Lovehistory were putting on a series of Halloween scare events and a friend who worked with them asked if he would like to help out to build up a portfolio for myself. He offered his services free of charge, and by the end of the event he ended up getting paid for his work as they were so pleased with how it turned out and made the event come to life. Since then he has kept himself really busy, staying involved with Lovehistory and their projects, working on independent zombie films such as the excellent "Radio Silence" (2013) and looking to work on some of his own projects as well.
