Alice Smith's soul-stirring combination of fiercely honed pop drenched in notes of soul, orchestral arrangements and multi-hued harmonies is nothing short of intoxicating and will leave you wanting more of this Grammy-nominated powerhouse. Her highly-anticipated EP "Mystery", compiled of all original compositions, was released in October of 2019 and followed by a headlining theater tour that featured shows at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC and The Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC. "Mystery" features seven intuitively-crafted songs that pair "trip-hop-like grit" with the exquisite sultriness of Smith's voice, a combination that has captivated listeners since the collection's first debut on NPR's Tiny Desk and the CW hit TV series Black Lightning. Smith's prior releases include an arresting and breathtakingly powerful rendition of the American standard classic "House of the Rising Sun" (August 31, 2018) which she recorded after performing it live at her sold-out Kennedy Center headlining performance in Washington DC earlier that year. In 2015, Smith gifted listeners with a stunningly chilling version of Nina Simone's "I Put A Spell on You" from the Nina Simone all-star tribute album " Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone" which included songs from Lauryn Hill, Usher, Mary J. Blige and more. She wowed a national television audience in 2017 with her performance of "Spell" at the BETHer Fights: Breast Cancer televised event. The song was also transformed through the artistic eye of Kahlil Joseph into beautifully captured visual art installation entitled "Black Mary" for the Tate Modern exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power in London in 2017. Smith's version of "Fool For You" popularized by Cee-Lo Green has garnered licenses including Gotham, Being Mary Jane, and Fox's hit series Empire's inaugural episode. She once again captivated a national television audience on BET's Black Girls Rock in 2013. Smith also performed "Glory" for the nationally televised 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards in 2016. Smith has two previously released albums including her critically-acclaimed debut "For Lovers, Dreamers & Me," released in 2006, which showcases an artful blend of bluesy, soulful vocals and mid-tempo grooves, including Smith's single "Dream" which was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Urban/Alternative category. Smith's succeeding 2013 album, "She", showcases the influences of her upbringing in Washington DC and Augusta, Georgia which was founded on a steady diet of gospel, pop, soul and a little go-go thrown in for good measure. This intoxicating mixture reveals a singer/songwriter/producer who has an unshakable sense of self and the attitude to match.
