Hendrik Lenstra is a Dutch mathematician, awarded the Spinoza Prize in 1998, thanks to a mathematical analysis of lithography with which his colleague Bart de Smit collaborated. Released in an article entitled The Mathematical Structure of Escher's Print Gallery, Lenstra's work, at the time at the University of Leiden, proved that it is possible to correctly describe the mathematical structure of the Print Gallery, created by Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher in 1956.
