Ian Paul Garland began film making when he was eight years of age. Not coming from an industry family he worked his way up from the bottom and his break came in 1983 when he was 17, he started as a runner for Tony Cuthbert Cartoons, in Soho, London. Tony Cuthbert was a major player in The Beatles 'Yellow Submarine'. Ian moved up quickly and by 19 was training as a film editor and then editing on 35mm at the age of just 21. He learned his trade, cutting film Commercials and pop promo's for the likes of The Stranglers, Mama's Boys, Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and others. In 1986 another passion took hold, music and with friends he built a modern 16 track recording studio in a converted stable and produced music and soundtracks. This alliance formed several bands, 'Masque' and 'Fullmoon. For a time he wrote songs and performed live. The advent of Avid Media Composer pulled him back into film and television in 1994 and changed the course of his life. He was an early pioneer editing on Media Composer and worked closely with the Avid UK development team. He has subsequently edited every genre, including, feature films, documentaries, pop videos, commercials and broadcast television. Throughout the nineties and to this day he works regularly in Broadcast Television for all the major channels. In 2000 Ian decided that he'd been in the cutting rooms for long enough and established an independent production company, G Films, based at Pinewood Studios. Here he started the real work to realise his dreams and began writing and developing a slate of feature films. During this time he won an MOD contract and produced and directed training films for the British Army. In 2004 he moved to France and dedicated himself to screen writing. Whilst there he wrote and directed several short films and worked with screenwriter Hugh Stoddart, writer of 'Remembrance' on a short called 'Eucalyptus'. He then wrote and directed a feature entitled 'Armour D'amour' AKA 'Acceptance'. In 2009 he left France and lived in New York for a time where he wrote and directed another short 'I Love You, I Love You'. He moved back to London in 2010 and is now established in Kensington. He continues to work in post production and finds time to write and develop feature films. His production company, A Light In The Dark Films Limited, has been running for 11 years. 'Telling a story is what it's about for me. Wether I'm at the desk writing the script, behind the camera directing or in the cutting room putting the film together, getting to the heart of the story and to the motivations of the characters is what film making is all about. I believe it's crucial we continue to communicate our emotions to each other so as to inspire future generations.'
