David P Gelles is an Emmy-award winning producer for NBC's Today show. Gelles is the show's main producer for political content covering national politics, foreign affairs and breaking news events. Gelles is an expert in presidential interviews, including six with President Barack Obama and three with President George W. Bush while in office. Since joining the Today Show in 2003, Gelles has covered major breaking news events including the Virginia Tech shootings, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the death of Pope John Paul II. During the 2008 campaign he produced interviews with all the major presidential candidates, and produced live coverage in the field with NBC correspondents David Gregory and Andrea Mitchell. From 2001 to 2003, Gelles worked as an associate producer for MSNBC. He began his career in television as an NBC page. Gelles graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in political science in 1999. He lives in New York with his wife Danna.
