Swathi Bhaskar was born into a Middle class family in Kerala. His father, K. Bhaskaran, an Engineer in the electricity board was a playwright and an actor. His uncle, O. Madhavan is also very known Dramatist and theatre Director. From childhood he showed his interest in arts, culture and literature. He started writing in "Balayugom", a Malayalam childrens Magazine at the age of 10. His father paved the way to get exposed to new wave films by taking him to Film festivals conducted by Film Socities of the town. By 13 he had watched almost all masters films from India and Abroad. After schooling in different places in Kerala he joined S.N. College Kollam and after that took a graduation in Physics from Kerala University. Studied in T.K.M engineering for Computer applications and Masters in Television production and Mass communication from Hyderabad University. Worked as Guest lecturer in S. N College in Mass Communication Department for 3 years. In 1990 he assisted well known Director Syamaprasad in one of his Television productions based on Anton Chekov's "The Proposal". His first Directorial venture was "Anamika" A Telefilm in two episodes.
