A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Alex Pierson met with former CHCH news anchor Donna Skelly at a Hamilton clothing store and told her she wanted to be a news reporter. She studied journalism at Mohawk College in 1995. She started her career at the radio station Y95/CHML and also worked as CHML AM radio. In 1996 she was working in general assignment at CHCH-TV in Hamilton before venturing west to become the entertainment anchor/reporter with Calgary's A-Channel. Two years later, Alex went to Barrie, Ontario to began working at CKVR-TV, The New VR. In April 2001, she joined CityPulse and the CP24 news team in Toronto, Ontario and worked for seven years as an anchor and reporter. She left CityTV in September, 2006 and after a hiatus from television news, she returned in July 2007 and joined GlobalToronto as a reporter for courts and crime as well as anchoring the weekend news. In March 2011, she joined the Sun News Network to co-host The Roundtable, the network's morning show, along with "Pat Bollard" and "Andrea Slobodian". She is an accomplished equestrian and grew up riding horses and competed across Ontario on the A-Circuit. Her dream was to be a soap opera actress but later decided to abandoned that dream. She has won two Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awards for a series on trucking which resulted in changing in licensing.
