Michael Matthews made his feature directorial debut with the acclaimed Five Fingers For Marseilles, a contemporary Western, set in rural South Africa. The film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, and went on to BFI London Film Festival, Busan Int Film Festivaland, Fantastic Fest and many more. It won five African Movie Academy Awards, including Best Film, Best Film in an African Language and Best First Feature Film by a Director. Matthews' professional background also includes directing commercials, music videos and short films, including Apocalypse Now Now which won Best Short Film at the South African Film & TV awards 2018.
