Luigi Sardiello (Firenze, 1962) is a writer, director and film critic. He is Chief Editor of Filmaker's magazine, an Italian quarterly magazine dedicated to the film and audiovisual industry, and teaches "Creative Writing" at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of La Sapienza University of Rome. For the cinema, he has written the story of La stanza accanto (The Room Next Door, directed by Fabrizio Laurenti, screenplay by Pupi Avati, DueA/Filmauro, 1997), the screenplay of La stanza delle farfalle (The Butterfly Room, directed by Gionata Zarantonello, Achab Film, 2010), and of the documentary films Il tuo futuro ci riguarda (Venice Industrial Film Festival, 1990) and Il mago del cinema. L'incredibile storia di Mr. Roger Corman, regista low budget (Noir in Festival, 2006). In 2009 he made his debut as a director with the feature film Piede di dio (Foot of God), which he has also written. Piede di dio was awarded with 12 prizes in national and international festivals and was selected to represent Italy at the N.I.C.E. Film Festival in Moscow and St. Petersburg (2009) and at the Odessa International Film Festival (2010). He is author of the novel La sfrontatezza del cuore (Ibiskos 1988, Giovanni Gronchi International Award) and of the collection of short stories Pentalogia Semplice (Salerno 1992, Olevano Award). He is co-author of the writing handbook Scrivere per comunicare (Bompiani, 2000, with a foreword by Umberto Eco), of numerous essays on cinema, and educational texts, such as Storia di un'ape che diventò perspicace dopo essere stata pericolosa ("Premio Pubblicità Italia", 1995). In 2000 he was a member of a University research group coordinated by Umberto Eco, working on the "highly-readable writing" style.
