Lee Filipovski was born in 1989 in Nis, Serbia. In 2011 she graduated from the School of the Image Arts at Ryerson University in Toronto, and also holds a certificate from the Film and Television School of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). She received her Master's Degree in Film Directing from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade (FDU). In 2018 she became a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Her short film Fluffy (2016) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and screened at over 30 film festivals, including Telluride, Aspen Shortfest and SIFF. It won numerous awards, including the Best Short Film Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association/Golden Globes and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short in 2018. Lee was one of the participants in the Nuits en Or tour by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques Cesar Awards in 2018. In 2019, she was selected as one of eight participants in the Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women. She splits her time between Belgrade and Toronto.
