La Motte Smith, professionally known as "Sherrick," was born in Sacramento, California, U.S.A. Sherrick recorded with the group Kagny and the Dirty Rats. Raynoma Gordy, ex-wife to Berry Gordon, secured Sherrick a recording deal with Warner Brothers where his Michael Stokes -produced debut album 'Sherrick' (1987), included 'Just Call' (UK Top 30) and 'Let's Be Lovers Tonight' (UK Top 75). Prior to his debut set, Sherrick was the lead singer of the Motown group, Kagny, who recorded a track for the Motown movie 'The Last Dragon'. Sherrick had also cut many tracks for the label as a background singer on various projects. His siblings were Rochelle, LaRetta, Richard and LaVena. Sherrick's favorite tune, by the way, was Luther Vandross's 'Never Too Much'. His first self-entitled album on Warner Bros. Records included "Just Call" and "Baby I'm for Real." Sherrick, A twenty-year veteran of the music industry, had numerous credits, has made videos which have aired on MTV, BET and Soul Train. Toured his show across the United States and overseas to London. Sherrick produced, wrote and recorded his first album. Sherrick ran his own company "Sheriton Productions" for ten years.
