Mitchell Wu graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Radio/TV/Film. He then worked on the Mellon International Dunhuang Archive, filming and documenting the the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas located near Dunhuang, China in the Gobi Desert before enrolling in the Medill School of Journalism in 2007. While attending classes there, he served as a reporter and producer in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Paris, France and London, England for the Medill News Service. He also collaborated on a documentary short on the Muslim-American experience under the supervision of Steve James ("Hoop Dreams," "The War Tapes"), Lawrence Lichty ("Vietnam: A Television History") and Jon Petrovich (formerly of CNN and head of the Associated Press's U.S. broadcast unit). After graduation, he moved to New York City and worked on several PBS productions before moving on to the independent film scene, working for pioneering documentary filmmakers D. A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus at Pennebaker Hegedus Film and then for Jim Jarmusch's production company, Exoskeleton. He has since alternated between small independent films and larger studio productions, working in both feature films and series productions.
