Laxmikant Shetgaonkar was born and brought up in Goa, India. He started his film career with A Sea Side Story, a 45 minute film which won the National Award for Best Debut non feature film and Golden Conch for Best Fiction Film at Mumbai International Film Festival in 2004. His first feature film, Paltadacho Munis (The man beyond the bridge) in Konkani language, received The Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics (Fibresci) at Toronto International Film Festival in 2009, Best Film in Konkani at 57th National Film Awards of India in 2009, and Grand Jury Prize for Best Film at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in 2010. The film was extensively screened at important international film festivals like Berlin, Palm Springs, Cairo, Istanbul, IFFI, Mumbai. Baga Beach is his second feature film.
