Gary Reimer

Gary (Douglas) Reimer was born in North London to an accountant father and a tax manager mother. He is of English and Scottish descent on his mother's side and Irish, Canadian, Russian, German and Dutch descent on his father's side. As a child, he briefly spent time in Canada, where he became a naturalized citizen, before returning to the UK aged eight. He comes from a diverse religious background. He was raised Mormon in England and even served as a Mormon missionary in Ireland in his early twenties. His grandfather grew up as a Mennonite in Canada before converting to Anglican after meeting his grandmother in London during the second world war. In recent years, Gary has distanced himself from religion though he deeply respects anyone with faith and religious beliefs. Aged seven, Gary was diagnosed with ADHD and has done a lot of work throughout his life helping others with the condition, particularly parents and teachers, to help them understand how best to serve the needs of those with ADHD. Initially, he was due to join the military. His grandfathers and great-grandfather influenced his choice to join the military. His grandfather served on the front line for the entirety of world war one in the King's Royal Rifles. Gary decided to go into the arts after he couldn't become a fighter pilot due to being too tall for fighter jet cockpits and his eyesight not meeting the RAF's high standards. Gary started his further education later than he hoped due to the setbacks in his family life and religious responsibilities. He was accepted to drama school in his mid-twenties and completed a three-year BFA Acting program, where he was considered one of the top students in his graduating year. Notable alums from his school included Aaron Eckhart and Neil LaBute. While at drama school, Gary was nominated twice for the Irene Ryan acting award. Gary has always been highly adventurous throughout his life. Though raised in a humble home with modest means, he had the opportunity to excel at show jumping, fencing, and archery as a boy/young teen before turning to more traditional sports. In his teenage years was a very talented athlete, especially at running and athletics. In 2015 he ascended his first seven summits mountain (Mount Elbrus) with longtime friend and fellow actor Peter Gadiot.
