Cate is an LA-based writer/director with award-winning feature screenplays and short films, including the national wildcard-winning Lionsgate short "Masque," which also earned her a directing award at the Crystal & Lucy's. As a director selectee for the Alliance of Women Directors Short Film Program grant, "Of Mine" recently premiered at Disney Studios. Her latest adventure suspense short, "The Plumber", won the grand jury award at the BlackMagic Collective Film Festival in Nov to kick off a 2021 festival run. She is in development of a contained adventure/suspense/sci-fi feature with her disabled producing partner, J. Everley, who was a 2020 Respectability Lab selectee in conjunction with major studios. Together under Sensorium Pictures, they have several other feature and television projects in various stages of development. She is also a fellow and the Future Directors of Studio Features Initiative Director for Blackmagic Collective in the 2021 cycle. Prior to her return to film in 2012, she served ten years as a decorated military police officer and instructor, and transitioned to Intelligence during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom while traveling throughout Europe. Later, as a victims advocate and civilian detective, this "spectrum of humanity" experience provided a bedrock of knowledge about human connection and behavior. It also helped define her focus in narrative adventure and suspense stories about unconventional characters in extraordinary circumstances, with bold accompanying visuals. Through masterclasses, the NBC/Universal Directing Series, degrees in psychology and criminal justice, on set experience, and countless other programs, Cate constantly seeks to enrich her craft through education.
