For over a decade, director+cinematographer+editor John Roderick has cut his teeth in the world of adventure and action sports, music and culture, crafting inspiring stories from some of today's most respected athletes, musicians and changemakers. Much of John's branded content, television series, and documentary film work have focused on highlighting unique people, the planet and brands that are serving the greater good. John's cinematography is highly motivated by shaping light, shadow and action that allow both the subject and story to feel their most authentic. His camera language often blends both natural and artificial light sources, handheld movement, and lens flare to create an overall kinetic signature. John's work experience is widely diverse, ranging from large commercials requiring over 50,000 watts, to scene work for reality television series, highly coordinated action sports stunts, to documentary storytelling in some of the world's most remote and rugged locations. John holds feature film lighting and director of photography master class certificates under the mentorship of cinematographer Russell Carpenter (Titanic, Avatar 2&3, Charlie's Angels, Ant Man,) and lighting gaffer Morris Flam (The Tourist, Black Swam, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Cold Mountain, I am Legend). Born in the small mill town of Rumford, Maine, John moved west to Vail, Colorado in 1997 to pursue his passion for snowboarding. He quickly found a community within snowsports and began his career as a cinematographer and filmmaker for such brands as Oakley, Red Bull and Outside Television.
