Jean D. Sewell, the third eldest of five daughters and one son was born to Mattie Horner Dorsey and John Larvell Dorsey in Chicago, Ill., on July 14, 1920. Jean attended Dusable in Chicago and went on to study voice with Madame Desanctus. This was the beginning of her theatrical career in the world of entertainment. Earlier on, in her 20's, she met, fell in love and married Arthur William Sewell. They themselves produced three loving children, Jean Edith, Linda Clair and Arthur William Sewell, Jr. In addition to being a wife and mother, Jean was still able to maintain a successful career and family life. She then went onto commercials, stage and screen plays, touring with such great names as Nat King Cole and Duke Ellington, in addition to headlining at one of Japan's finest theatres, for two years. My mother, Jean, touched many souls in her lifetime and will be remembered fondly and lovingly by all who knew her.
