Thomas Garber is a graduate of the Film/Video Department at California Institute of the Arts where he mentored under Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker, Terry Sanders. His student work was honored by an award from Kodak and a screening at Filmex. Mr. Garber formed 20/20 Video Productions in 1985, a Manhattan, NY based production company under which he was the director/camera-person/editor on hundreds of commercial projects. A move to Hampton Bays, NY and the formation of Third Wave Films shifted Mr. Garber's focus back to documentary production with his films, North Shore Maui and Of Boats and Brothers: The Yacht Building Herreshoffs which aired on The Discovery Channel and PBS respectively. Since then he has executive produced, written, directed, and edited 11 documentaries, often on historic maritime themes. These films have been screened and awarded at the Houston Film Festival, Charleston Film Festival, Hamptons DocFest, Long Island Film Festival, New York Emmys and Telly Awards. His films stream internationally on Amazon. In addition, Mr. Garber has been commissioned to write and produce several short films for major museums including Mystic Seaport, Herreshoff Marine Museum, Montauk Lighthouse Museum, Nantucket Life-Saving Museum, and Wooden Boatworks.
