With her refreshing bluesy-folk-pop sound and creative you tube videos, Katie Gavin became an Internet sensation in December 2010 after her unique cover of Willow Smith's hit single "Whip My Hair" reached nearly 200,000 views in one month. Those lucky enough to know Katie's original material, as well, have found that her writing and talent is beyond her years. The 18-year-old high school senior from the Chicago area began penning songs and playing guitar at the age of 13. Two years later she was accepted into the prestigious Grammy Camp, a summer program at the USC Thornton School of Music sponsored by The Grammy Foundation for aspiring musicians, producers, writers, and promoters. Upon completion of camp, Katie was informed by production company, Media Meld Studios, that the documentary they filmed at camp (Happy On The Ground) was going to be titled after lyrics in her song, Fallen. It was at that moment when she realized her music was being recognized and taken seriously, and she knew that it was something she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Since then, Katie has been asked to speak and sing at local GRAMMY chapter events and even performed with Keith Urban at a concert put on by the foundation. In the summer of 2010 she won a Myspace Sara Bareilles cover contest, beating out thousands of other participants. She has recently been featured on MTV.com, RyanSeacrest.com, Teen.com, PopCrunch.com, and Jezebel.com, amongst many other blogs and sites.
