Val "Macky" Derpo is a Mowelfund alumni and one of the youngest members of the Philippine Motion Picture Directors Association or formerly known as the Kapisanan ng mga Direktor ng Pelikulang Pilipino(PMPDA,KDPP), 24-year old Val "Macky" Derpo has a vision of producing quality films on one hand and out of the box ideas on the other. After trying his hands on photography, theater, writing, call center industry and finishing college, Macky found his own spot under the sun - behind the camera. The burgeoning filmmaker began studying under respected filmmakers such as Boy Vinarao, Surf Reyes, Jun periera, Andy Andico and William Mayo. The mentors took a special shine to Macky's unusually frightening storytelling and concepts. Impressively establishing a formidable air of dread within the restrictive confines of a brief class discussion. Having gotten inspiration from Japanese filmmakers like Takashi Shimizu, Takashi Miike, and Akira Kurosawa, He also draws from folklores, myths, and history, Macky set out to create a film that he someday would like to think as trailblazing the traditional Filipino movie genres. The young director somehow feared his lack of experience, but loved taking risks, Macky believed everything's got to start somewhere and he started shooting without hesitation. Being young that he is, he always looked forward to success and always envisioned "Giving people the highest forms of entertainment". He loved the silver screen, he loved entertainment, he loved the arts and this triggered the creation of his first full length feature film "Ika-Sampu". He plans to create more films in the future, the next one being an entirely different genre from his debut, and finish his bachelor's degree in Mass-Communications.
