Silas House is the nationally bestselling author of six novels, including Clay's Quilt (2001), A Parchment of Leaves (2003), The Coal Tattoo (2005), Eli the Good (2009), Same Sun Here (with Neela Vaswani, 2012), and the most recent, Southernmost (2018). His nonfiction book, Something's Rising (with Jason Howard, 2009), is about mountaintop removal mining. House is the NEH Chair of Appalachian Studies at Berea College and is on the fiction faculty at the Spalding University MFA in Creative Writing. He has also served as an executive producer and consultant on films and has appeared in documentaries. He is a native of Southeastern Kentucky.
