Indo-Canadian actress, writer, director, and mental health advocate Shreya Patel is an honoree of Women's Achiever Award 2020 and has appeared in lead roles in numerous short films, improv theatre productions and most recently in Robert Misovic's The Intersection, Hulu's Handmaid's Tale, Netflix's Grand Army and FX's Mrs. America. A graduate of Toronto's Second City Conservatory, her love affair of narrative sketch improv continues as she is currently writing a comedy pilot and in pre-production as a producer for her upcoming short film. Her first film role in "Vivid" helped garner the film multiple horror award nominations. A natural storyteller, she fuses many of her diverse interests and impactful activism work in film projects. Her directorial debut, the documentary "Girl Up", about domestic violence and human trafficking, was screened by numerous women's organizations and was also featured in TIFF Bell Lightbox, celebrating up-and-coming directors in the Canadian film industry. Last year, she appeared in Bell Canada's national mental health awareness ad "Bell Let's Talk", raising visibility and breaking the silence around mental illness and support. Outside of film and TV, she is a competitive dancer (hip-hop, jazz, Bollywood) and is training in aerial arts with the Toronto School of Circus Arts. She is also well versed in 3 languages: English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
