Paula has been working for several years as a documentary filmmaker and works particularly with topics related to human rights. Her long documentary Faces of Harassment was launched in September 2016 at the 49th Brasília Film Festival and has already run through other prestigious Brazilian festivals such as the 24th Brazilian Mix Festival (November 2016) and the 20th Brazilian Film Festival of Tiradentes (January 2017). Faces of Harassment is also a transmedia project, which extends to an interactive website and has participated in IDFA Docs for Sale (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam). In 2017, the film had its TV premiere on Canal Brasil and is running on the educational circuit of the US and Canada, distributed by Women Make Movies. Paula also directed the documentary "Truth 12.528", about the Brazilian National Truth Commission, launched in 2013 at the 37th São Paulo International Film Festival, and has also run through other festivals such as Cinema Vérité (Iran) and International Political Film Festival (Argentina), among many others. Formed in journalism, Paula won the Vladimir Herzog Prize for Amnesty and Human Rights and has covered the first Egyptian presidential elections in Cairo for TV Folha, after Mubaraks fall. She has already done webdocs for Aljazeera's AJ + channel and for The Guardian. In 2014, "The more prisoners, the greater profit," a short documentary about the arrival of private prisons in Brazil, was awarded in the 31st Human Rights Journalism Award. Paula co-directed in 2017 the TV series "Families" on LGBT youth on the outskirts of São Paulo and directed in 2018 another TV series of eight episodes on the Brazilian prison system. Paula also collaborates by directing mini-docs for Hysteria, an audiovisual content platform run by women from Conspiração Filmes, and is currently developing two long documentaries: one about sex in the third age and another about masculinities.
