Selina McCallum was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised by her Tanzanian mother and Jamaican father. She attended the University of Windsor where she double-majored in Digital Journalism and Communications, Media and Film. She is a leader, a digital storyteller and a multi-faceted artist. During her time in Windsor, Selina worked on two thought-provoking and compelling short documentaries. Marley's Journey follows a young couple and their 3 year old daughter who has angelman syndrome, a rare genetic and neurological disorder characterized by severe developmental delay and learning disabilities. Selina was the Director of Photography for the film. The short documentary came in 2nd in Videography at Guelph Humber's national Emerge Media Awards in 2018, and was later a part of CBC GEM's Absolutely Canadian series that aired nationwide. In 2019, Selina co-directed a short doc, Traffick on 401, which examined the sex trafficking crisis in Ontario and Michigan. It currently sits at over 17K views on her Youtube channel. Selina is a compassionate, loyal and hardworking individual. After she graduated in 2019 with honours, she became the Production Manager at the TCN TV Network in Brampton, Ontario. She was also a journalist for the Toronto Caribbean Newspaper. In addition, she managed two social media accounts for non-profit organizations (Black Women in Motion and Street Voices) simultaneously. Near the end of 2020, Selina was selected to be a part of the Being Black in Canada program, where Black emerging filmmakers are given the opportunity to direct their short documentary film through funding and mentorship from industry professionals. The film had its World premiere at the Toronto Black Film Festival. Today, Selina is the Digital Media Coordinator at Hungry Eyes Media, working and learning from the award-winning Director and Producer, Jennifer Holness. She also occasionally is the videographer for Street Voices, a media platform that uplifts marginalized voices. Selina is also working with the brilliant Chrisann Hessing on her documentary film which takes a deep dive into exploring masculinity. Selina brings fresh ideas, positive energy and strong work ethic to every team she is a part of. She looks forward to continuing to pave her path in filmmaking and social media management.
