Makana David McDermott, whose first name means "gift" in Hawaiian, was born September 3, 1994 in Lansing, Michigan. His father was a ministry pastor, his parents also owned a commercial painting business, operated from Makana's childhood home until their split in 2005. Makana would then shortly after move to Honolulu, Hawai'i. Makana David's ethnicity's include; Native Hawaiian, Asian, and Irish from his father's side and Mexican and Native American (Choctaw) from his mother's side. As a freshman at Kaiser High School in Honolulu, Makana's first job was at Koko Marina Movie Theater followed by working for Redbox video rental company; driving all over the island re-stocking red box machines with DVD's, changing movie posters, fixing their kiosks and of course, watching every and any movie in his free time. Having access to so many movies allowed him an opportunity to study the greats and further motivated him to land a job as an actor in the industry. Redbox's income supported acting lessons in Honolulu but shortly after, he would leave Hawai'i and venture to Los Angeles where he got a job waiting tables, while pursuing his passion and gaining knowledge of the industry. He continues to study and move forward in his acting career. Recently making his tv debut on Magnum P.I. on CBS, as well as booking a supporting role in the upcoming thriller film 'DIG' Directed by K. Asher Levin.
