Alexander Lee Wyrick was born in Memphis, TN to Rance Wyrick, an engineer for Illinois Central Railroad and Charlotte Jones, a secretary for the University of Tennessee. Alex has 2 half-sisters, Betsy and Amy. His father is of German descent and his mother's ancestry is unknown. The family lived in Memphis until his parents divorced in 1977, when Alex moved with his father to Southaven, MS. Alex attended French Camp Academy for high school, a boarding school in French Camp, MS where he performed in many theater productions. He was also a DJ at WFCA, a radio station on campus. He played quarterback on the football team, and sang in the chorus & quartet before graduating in 1986. After high school, Alex enlisted in the US Naval Reserve as an RP while attending college full-time at the University of Memphis. After receiving an honorable discharge 4 years later from the Navy, he enlisted in the US Army National Guard for 4 years as an Infantryman while still attending university. His commanding officer recommended him for the elite US Army Ranger School where he received the coveted Ranger Tab during a summer break from university. He continued working as a DJ for several radio stations in the area when not drilling with his national guard unit, and graduated university in 1995 with a B.A. in Economics. After university, Alex worked as an outside sales rep, IT networking engineer, and realtor. Careers outside the performing arts paid the bills, but never delivered the true joy & happiness that comes from chasing your passion. After the economic crash of 2008, he moved to Los Angeles to become a working actor.
