Dorothea (Dolly) Lewis was born to Nadia Lewis, a scholar of Russian literature from Slovakia and the late Gavin Lewis, a professor of history from England. She grew up with her parents, two older brothers, and one older sister in Princeton, New Jersey, where she sang in every choir she could find, took piano lessons at the local music conservatory, and from ages 9 to 12 honed her writer-producer-performer skills by inventing and acting out original pieces on her backyard swing-set of a stage. As an undergrad at Rutgers University (New Brunswick) Dolly studied Art History and spent a year in Italy at the University of Florence. After road-tripping across the US, teaching preschool children with autism, and running an art gallery in New York City, she decided it was time to devote herself to her true calling, acting and music. Dolly is currently completing her studies with Suzanne Esper at the Esper Studio (on hold due to Covid-19). When she's not in front of the camera, you can find Dolly gardening on her fire escape "balcony", singing with jazz manouche musicians around New York City, and tickling the ivories of her mini accordion. Most recently she portrayed a femme fatale torch singer in the short Béla Baptiste and is currently slated to play the lead in an upcoming feature film from director Béla Baptiste.
