Darrin Murrell has worked as a professional actor on stage and film, director, producer and educator for over 35 years with theatres all across the country including extensive work in Indianapolis, Chicago and Portland, Oregon. He is a member of Actors Equity Association, the professional union for actors, and is known for his work in "Jac Kessler's Popsy" and "And Justice For All." He was most recently seen acting and/or directing on stage at Theatre on the Square, IndyFringe, Actors Theatre of Indiana, Human Race Theatre in Dayton, Ohio, Texas Shakespeare Festival and Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre in Indianapolis as well as being the recipient of the Indiana Arts Commission's Individual Theatre Artist Grant Award. He is also an historic interpreter and has served as one of the characters at Conner Prairie Historic Park in addition to touring with his one-man show about President John Adams. He served as Executive Artistic Director of Nettle Creek Players, Indiana's historic summer stock tent theatre, is former Executive Director of Muncie Civic Theatre, and has served as President of the Indiana Community Theatre League and Regional Representative to the American Association of Community Theatres. For eleven years he taught and directed the drama program at Monroe Central High School in Indiana. He also founded two successful and continuing theatre programs, Historic Farmland USA's Dinner Theatre and Portland Parks' American Heritage Theatre Project. He is the author of several biographical musicals about historic composers and artists, all of which have receive numerous staged productions. He lives on his family's homestead farm in Parker City, Indiana with his wife and two children, all of whom perform together as the band The Hot Jazz Family Band and Earl Eye & The Space Pirates.
