Ruthenberg later became Executive Officer of the Lutheran Church in Queensland and in July 2009, Executive Office of the Lutheran Church of Australia, overseeing 85 schools, 45 aged care facilities and 60 early learning centres from 2009-2012. Ruthenberg was an LNP candidate for the local Queensland seat of Kallangur in 2009, before winning the seat on Campbell Newman's landslide election victory in 2012. He served on the Transport, Local Government and Housing Committee at the start of the parliamentary term and was appointed to the Chairmanship of the Health and Communities Committee in December 2012, staying in that position until January 2015 when he left Parliament. Ruthenberg was appointed General Manager of Scouts Queensland and CEO of Mosaic Foundation, a not-for profit charity group. He lives in Narangba, Queensland, and is married and has two sons. His wife, Gaye, is a high school teacher.
